ARF checking in here with another update! We have some big goals to eventually grant funds for professional athlete's in BMX, FMX & Skateboarding who are in financial need when it comes to paying insurance premiums. There are some people who are dedicating a ton of time and effort to make it easier for these athletes to be properly insured. ARF would like to post the information below from the Action Sports Advisory Group:
The Action Sports Advisory Group would like to congratulate the Dew Cup winners and all the athletes for a very exciting Summer Dew Tour Season. We also would like to thank Aaron Cooke of the ARF; Maritza Loyola and Wade Martin of the Dew Tour for their continued support; and agents Brad Lusky and Buster Halterman for taking time out of their busy schedules in Orlando to meet with us and offer advice and feedback on the direction and goals of the Action Sports Advisory Group. Although the summer season is over, the Action Sports Advisory Group is moving ahead with achieving its goals. Its short-term goals are to provide every athlete in action sports with affordable health and disability insurance coverage. Spearheading the health insurance issues in the industry is Amanda Savage; she is currently working with athletes to help them understand their current health insurance coverage and providing assistance in getting covered. In an effort to help athletes with out-of-network expenses, Amanda has provided Rick Bahr, medical director of the Dew Tour, with a list of hospitals and orthopedic surgeons in the areas surrounding the Dew Tour events that accept the coverage. In the event an athlete needs to go to a hospital, Rick will know where to send them to avoid out-of-network expenses. If you're not on that list, contact Amanda. On the disability front, Jeff Suarez has made progress with the negotiations with Lloyd's of London and is very optimistic on presenting the first group-rated true disability insurance product to the industry. Although the industry is not considered a group by insurance standards, Jeff has fought for the special group pricing and is confident he will achieve it. While the negotiations continue with Lloyd's of London, disability insurance is still a hot topic and needs immediate attention. Jeff has researched insurance products that are not conventionally used for disability but have been used in other sports that have similar issues with true disability insurance coverage. If you would like more information on these products, please contact the Action Sports Advisory Group.
